The commissioner of the department of health must ensure that all patient identifying information reported to the cancer registry is treated as confidential and privileged. An employee or consultant who intentionally or negligently discloses confidential identifying information will be subject to a penalty. All identifying information that is produced or prepared by employees or agents of the registry may only be used for statistical, scientific and medical research purposes and shall be held strictly confidential by the registry.
