The law specifies the types of hospital acquired infection data that hospitals are required to submit to the Department of Health and Senior Services. In addition, the law requires ambulatory surgery centers to report to the Department incidences of hospital acquired infections on specific types of surgeries. The reporting requirement may be met if the hospital or ambulatory surgery center sends the data to the CDC through an electronic system.
