Permits hospitals to maintain patient records electronically, in microfilm, or another photographically reproduced form. Establishes record retention periods (e.g., test reports must be maintained for five years after the date of the test) and methods for safe destruction (e.g., burning, shredding, etc.). Requires practitioners to authenticate their treatment or medication orders manually or electronically.
