Requires a hospital to have a clinical laboratory capable of performing specified lab tests (e.g., serology, urinalysis, etc.). Establishes standards for laboratory personnel, the handling of specimens, blood, and blood products. Requires laboratories to have written policies and procedures that address items such as the ordering of tests and preservation of specimens. Limits the ordering of lab tests to licensed practitioners and requires a copy of lab orders to be placed in patients’ medical records.
