Hospital to disclose data to nongovernmental patients – Ohio Rev. Code Ann. § 3727.34

Each hospital must annually submit to the director of health the following information pertaining to inpatient services for patients in each of the sixty most commonly treated diagnosis-related groups for the previous calendar year:

  • The total number of patients discharged;
  • The mean, median and range of total hospital charges;
  • The mean, median and range of total length of hospital stay;
  • The number of admissions from the emergency room;
  • The number of admissions from transfer from another hospital;
  • The number of admissions from other sources of admission;
  • The total number of patients falling within certain diagnosis-related groups specified in the law.

Each hospital must annually submit to the director of health the following information relating to outpatient services for each of the sixty categories of outpatient services most frequently provided by the hospital as represented by outpatient discharges for the previous calendar year:

  • The mean and median of total hospital charges for the services;
  • The number of patients for whom the hospital provided services for each of the 60 categories.

Hospitals may include information to explain large deviations in the range of information provided for any category of outpatient services.  The director will make the information submitted available to the public.  Every hospital must make the information it submits to the director available for inspection by any member of the public at any reasonable time.   The hospital must make the copies of the information available upon request for a reasonable fee.  Hospitals holding piecing information for categories not required by this law must make the information available to the public upon request.
