Wisconsin law protects the confidentiality of Medicare information. However, the duty to maintain Medicare data confidentiality does not apply to information requested by federal or state agencies, such as the Wisconsin Department of Health Services.1 The law prohibits the Department of Health Services for disclosing Medicare data for purposes not related to administration of the program.2
