S.C. CODE ANN. REGS. 61-16 § 1107 - Medical records storage

Hospitals must retain medical records for 10 years. In the case of minor patients, medical records must be retained until the patient turns 18 years old.
 
Medical records storage must prevent unauthorized access and deterioration, and confidentiality must be maintained. Hospitals may preserve records via microfilm or similar technology, but must include the entire record.
