N.Y. Pub. Health Law § 3370 - Requirements for Preservation and Inspection of Records

Controlled substance records and prescription information must be kept, unless specified otherwise, for at least five years following the date of the event in the record occurred. Department employees and other state employees tasked with enforcing controlled substance regulations must have access to these records during business hours. 

 

Record holders may keep electronic prescription records so long as they comply with regulations established by the Commissioner.
