N.Y. Pub. Health Law § 2401 - Requirements for Reporting of Cancer Cases

Every physician, dentist and other health care provider must give notice immediately, but not later than one hundred eighty days, of every case of cancer or other malignant disease coming under his or her care to the department.  Additionally, whenever an examination of a tissue specimen in a laboratory discloses the existence of cancer or other malignant disease, the person in charge of the laboratory, or the person conducting the examination, must immediately, but not later than one hundred eighty days, report the incidence along with all the facts in connection with the case to the department.   

 

The department will maintain a cancer registry complete with all information reported with respect to each case of cancer.  Additionally, the department will supply forms upon which providers and labs may report the necessary cancer information.

 

The reports of cancer cases may not be divulged or made public so as to disclose the identity of any person to whom they relate.
