The department must use the electronic system established in Section 7333a to monitor such prescriptions. Employees of the department may obtain access to such information for purposes of monitoring controlled substances. All information entered into the electronic system remains confidential, but may be available to those conducting research studies for statistical purposes. All patient identities must be removed from the electronic system, unless the identity of the patient is necessary due to an ongoing investigation.
