Mich. Comp. Laws Ann. § 333.2888 - Inspection of vital records, disclosure of information, and issuance of copies; procedures; appeal to state registrar

Vital records and information contained within these records are not subject to the freedom of information act. Individuals or government entities with access to vital records must keep the information confidential unless a law or court authorizes disclosure.

An individual that is denied access to a vital record may appeal the denial to the state registrar who will subsequently issue a binding decision on the matter.
