Mich. Comp. Laws Ann. § 333.2638 - Violation; penalty

A person who discloses confidential information from departmental medical records or those related to medical research projects is guilty of a misdemeanor that can be punishable by up to one year in prison or a fine of $1,000 or both.  If the individual is an employee of the State Department of Public Health, he or she may be subject to immediate dismissal.
