This law states that a state health commissioner or local health officer with reasonable grounds to believe that an individual might have a communicable disease is allowed to ask the individual for written informed consent to a medical examination in order to prevent spread of the disease. If the individual refuses such an examination, then the law allows the state health commissioner or local health officer to obtain a court order to compel examination. Such court hearings are required to be conducted in private and must not be open to the public.
