The hospital quality indicators report should be based on hospital inpatient data that has been collected.  The purpose of the report is to show differences in the delivery of care, but not to point out specific hospitals.  The report is to promote overall care quality improvement based on national quality benchmarks.  The Department of Health Services must provide a paper copy of the report to legislators and an electronic copy of the report to consumers at no charge.  The Department may charge for a paper copy requested by consumers.  The Department cannot release information about individual hospitals.  The regulations provide suggested uses for the report, including legislative action to spur quality improvement, providing information about outcomes, and providing information about quality indicators.
