“Prophylactic required for eyes of infants under the public health law”

Every physician, midwife, or other person in attendance at the birth of a child is required to instill into the eyes of the baby within 1 hour after birth a prophylactic for the prevention of neonatal ophthalmia. Parents may object to the use of the prophylactic in writing due to their religious beliefs.
