Free standing emergency centers must maintain patient records. Medical records must be preserved for 5 years or, in the case of minor patients, 5 years past the minor’s 18th birthday. Medical records must be protected from loss, damage and unauthorized use. Medical records must contain patient identification information and a patient’s medical history.
