SAMHSA proposes changes to 42 CFR Part 2

On February 5, 2016, the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) through the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) proposed revisions to the Confidentiality of Alcohol and Drug Abuse Patient Records Regulations (42 CFR Part 2). Revisions address privacy concerns of patients while also facilitating the exchange of health information within the health care system. 42 CFR Part 2 was last updated in 1987.
