ONC Releases Draft TEFCA, Seeks Public Comment

On January 5, 2018, the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) through the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC) released the draft Trusted Exchange Framework and Common Agreement (TEFCA). The creation of the TEFCA was mandated under the 21st Century Cures Act, and highlights policies, procedures, and standards that build from existing health information network capabilities. The TEFCA is a roadmap for health information networks to work together to provide one "on-ramp" to patient information, regardless of health IT developer, health information exchange or network, and geography. ONC is seeking public comments, which should be submitted to exchangeframework@hhs.gov before 11:59 pm ET on February 18, 2018. Download the TEFCA by clicking here.
