CMS Releases New Rule to Improve Interoperability and Access to Health Data

On February 11, the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) released the Interoperability and Patient Access Proposed Rule to make patient data more accessible while improving quality. The rule supports the MyHealthEData Initiative, and aims to reduce information blocking. By increasing data interoperability, CMS hopes to improve care coordination to achieve better health outcomes. These policies align with the NPRM released by the ONC, which also addresses interoperability, and can be found here.
