ONC Releases NPRM to Improve Use of Health Information

On February 11, the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC) released a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (NPRM) to improve the interoperability of health information. The rule focuses on ways to “support seamless and secure access, exchange, and use of electronic health information (EHI).”  There is a focus on improving the ability of patients to access their health information electronically through the use of standard-based application programming interfaces (APIs), as well as implementing the information blocking provisions in Title IV of the 21st Century Cures Act.
