Health Insurance Exchanges in New Mexico

        The state of New Mexico has passed implementing legislation for the health benefit exchanges to be set up in the state through the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act.  New Mexico has established a Medical Insurance Pool to provide insurance coverage to individuals who are denied coverage due to preexisting conditions or are otherwise “uninsurable.”1  In addition, the state has established the Health Insurance Alliance, whose purpose is to increase health insurance coverage access to small businesses and individuals within the state.2
