Report of malpractice payments by insurers
A malpractice insurance issuer must submit a report to the board whenever they make a payment in excess of $20,000, on behalf of a physician, as part of a malpractice settlement or award. The issuer must also submit a report to the board if the negligence or incompetence of a covered physician results in the issuer making three or more claims within a five-year period. Issuers must submit these reports within 60 days of a claim settlement or verdict or else face a fine of up to $250.
