“Standard external review under the insurance law”

The insurance commissioner must complete a preliminary review of an external review request within 7 business days. Upon completion of the preliminary review, the commissioner must notify the individual in writing whether the request is complete and the request has been accepted for external review. At the time a request for external review is accepted, the commissioner must retain an independent review organization to conduct the external review. The independent review organization must review all the information and documents received from a health insurer and issue a written decision within 20 days.
