“Right to external review under the insurance law”

An enrollee of a health plan has the right to an independent external review of a determination by a health insurer or a utilization review entity. The enrollee or his authorized representative must submit a written request for external review to the insurance commissioner within 180 days of the health insurer’s denial decision.
