The Maine Health Data Organization is an entity governed by a Board of Directors.  The law requires the board to establish a uniform reporting system to facilitate the collection and analysis of clinical, financial, and quality data for the following purposes:

  • Use and build upon existing data sources through the integration of data sources;
  • To coordinate the development of a linked public and private sector information system;
  • Emphasize relevant and useful data, and not duplicative of existing data;
  • Minimize the burden of those providing data;
  • Preserve the reliability, accuracy and integrity of collected data while ensuring the availability of data in the public domain.

The Organization must file reports annually, and may modify the uniform reporting systems for clinical, financial, quality and restructuring data to allow for differences in the scope and type of provider and different financial structures among providers.  The board is authorized to contract with a third party to fulfill the collection and storage requirements of the data collection.  The board is also required to put out an annual report detailing the functioning of the Health Data Organization.
