Patient Counseling
Requires pharmacists to offer counseling to patients or their caregivers when dispensing a prescription. Identifies the elements that the counseling may include (e.g., how to administer the medication, common side effects, proper storage, etc.). Permits patients or their caregivers to refuse such counseling. Requires pharmacists to document refusals. Permits pharmacists to use information from the patient’s electronic profile to inform their counseling.
