Cost-containment efforts

The Commissioner of Health Services must consider ways to improve quality and save money through the use of complementary or alternative treatment methods and incorporate these findings into medical assistance programs such as MinnesotaCare.  The Commissioner of Health and Commissioner of Human Services must assess whether the current system of community health centers adequately addresses health disparities and access to care by racial and ethnic minorities within the state.  In conducting this assessment the factors to be examined include the availability of 24 hour care centers, the use of grants to increase the number of clinics and centers and services they provide, and whether increased use of physician’s assistants, nurses, or medical students would help to expand available services.
