Medical Assistance Reform Waiver

The Minnesota Legislature has taken steps to reform the delivery of care to its medical assistance beneficiaries in order to improve the quality of health care.  The Commissioner of Human Services is authorized to obtain waivers from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to implement any reforms to the state’s Medicaid program.  The Commissioner may implement and develop proposals for demonstration projects that test alternative payment and delivery system models.  Additionally, the Commissioner may promote the use of cost effective, high quality care, and encourage coordination of care among providers.  Furthermore, the Commissioner’s waiver requests may include a proposal that further integrates Medicare and Medicaid.
