Continuing analysis
The Commissioner of Health may undertake studies regarding acute care costs and the financial status of hospitals and outpatient surgical centers as well as publish reports on acute care costs.
The Commissioner of Health must encourage hospitals, outpatient surgical centers, home care providers, and other licensed health care providers to publish prices for services that are representative of those services sought by citizens of the state. The Commissioner must also analyze and disseminate price information to foster competition among health care providers. The Commissioner may also release information to the Attorney General if requested in order to investigate antitrust or anti-competitive behavior among health care providers.
For each hospital that reports cost information, the Commissioner must annually report on the hospital’s community benefit and community care, which should be reported as a percentage of the hospital’s total operating costs.
