Ancillary Drug Supply for Nursing Home Hospices, Extended Care Facilities or Intermediate Care Facilities
 
Authorizes the Board of Pharmacy to issue joint permits to a pharmacy and a nursing home, hospice, extended care facility, and intermediate care facility so the pharmacy may maintain an ancillary supply of drugs. Clarifies that the drug supply will remain the property of the permitted pharmacy. Establishes a process for pharmacies to apply for this permit. Requires a permitted facility and pharmacy to implement policies and procedures for the ancillary drug supply that address items such as maintaining resident confidentiality, assuring quality of the drug supply, and the supply formulary. Requires facilities to use an automated dispensing device to house the drug supply and limits stocking and restocking of this device to licensed pharmacists or their technicians or interns. Establishes standards for administering drugs from the ancillary drug supply. Requires facilities, when acting pursuant to a legend drug order, to notify a pharmacist within 48 hours of removing drug so that the pharmacist may review the resident’s profile and physician’s order for potential adverse drug reactions or contraindications. Permits removal of a controlled substance only after a pharmacists receives a drug order from a practitioner or verifies an existing controlled substance prescription.
