22 DC ADC § 2030 - Record Keeping Requirements

Washington D.C. hospitals must maintain medical records for all patients. Records must contain information regarding the patient’s identity, diagnosis, and treatment. Hospitals must maintain records for at least ten years following the patient’s discharge or three years after a child patient reaches the age of eighteen. Medical records are confidential and may only be accessed in accordance with relevant law or with the patient’s consent.
