ONC Blog Post: Examining Oversight of the Privacy and Security of Health Data Collected by Entities Not Regulated by HIPAA

On Tuesday, July 19, 2016, the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC) posted a blog post in coordination with the Office of Civil Rights at the US Department of Health and Human Services regarding the oversight of health data that is collected by entities not regulated by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). The blog post highlights a report that ONC issued to Congress, entitled Examining Oversight of the Privacy & Security of Health Data Collected by Entities Not Regulated by HIPAA, which can be found by clicking here. The report discusses concern over lack of guidance surrounding the privacy, security, and use of health information by entities not currently covered under HIPAA.
