Fast Facts: What is the Meaningful Use Program?

To promote the adoption of electronic health record (EHR) technology, the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health (HITECH) Act authorized incentive payments for certain healthcare providers that meaningfully use such technology to improve patient care. The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) manages the EHR Incentive Programs (also known as the Meaningful Use Program).
