New Products: Application Programming Interfaces

Application Program Interfaces (APIs) are sets of rules and protocols that govern the interactions between two software applications. They can be used to improve interoperability between electronic health record (EHR) systems. The proposed rules from the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC) and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid (CMS) both propose expanding the use of "open APIs" in health care.  For more information on APIs, read our updated Fast Fact and Myth Buster, linked below.
