Wis. Stat. Ann. § 253.115 - Newborn hearing screening

This law requires that DHS annually collect information about the number of deliveries in each hospital and whether these hospitals have newborn hearing screening program, and provide this information to the legislature.  The law further requires that each physician, nurse-midwife or professional midwife who attends a birth conduct a screening for hearing loss within 30 days of the infant’s birth (unless parents/guardians object to test on religious grounds).  The results of these screenings and infant’s risk factors to contract hearing loss must be sent to the state laboratory of hygiene board.  The law requires that no information obtained under this section from parents may be disclosed except for use in compiled statistical data that does not disclose any personal identifying information.
