W. Va. Code § 16-29B-18 - Annual reporting

Every health care provider must file annually, with the Board of Directors of the West Virginia Health Care Authority the following financial statements or reports:

  • A balance sheet outlining the assets, liabilities and net worth of the hospital for the preceding fiscal year;
  • A statement of income and expenses from the preceding fiscal year;
  • A statement of services rendered and available;
  • Other reports required by the Board.

If the reporting organization owns more than one reporting hospital, all of the required information must be reported separately for each. 

All related organizations must file the following information for the previous three fiscal years:

  • A balance sheet outlining the assets, liabilities and net worth of the organization;
  • A statement of income and expenses;
  • Statement of cash flows;
  • Other information required by the Board.

The related organizations must file this information annually after it has filed the reports for the prior years. 

The annual financial statements required to be filed must be filed in accordance with the accounting principles laid out by West Virginia law, and may require an attestation by the appropriate officials within the organization. 

All information filed under this law, except for personally identifiable medical information must be open to public inspection and examination.  If the Board requires further examination of the records or information submitted by a provider to verify the accuracy of the information, the Board may require a full or partial audit of the provider or organization.
