Prescription drug use monitoring program - registration required - rules
 
Requires the Board of Pharmacy to establish an electronic prescription drug monitoring program as a means of tracking controlled substance prescriptions in Colorado. Specifies the information that the program must track (e.g., patient names, prescribing providers, the name and quantity of the dispensed controlled substance, etc.). Requires all pharmacists and DEA registered practitioners to create an account with the program by January 1, 2015. Permits practitioners and pharmacists to designate a maximum of 3 persons to use the program on their behalf. Requires these persons to work with or for the delegating practitioner or pharmacist. Clarifies that practitioners and pharmacists are responsible for ensuring their designee’s proper use of the system and negligent breaches of confidentiality. Requires practitioners and pharmacies to tell patients that their information will be recorded in the system and accessed for prescription monitoring purposes.
