Patients treated in the outpatient service of a hospital have the following rights:

  • To be informed of the identity of the physician primarily responsible for his care;
  • To be informed if trainees participate in his care, and to provide his consent to such participation unless an emergency precludes such consent;
  • To be informed to the extent possible by a physician as to the general nature of his medical problem, the general prognosis, and the nature and purpose of the treatment and procedures which are contemplated; and
  • To be given appropriate instructions in self-care.
