Obligations of Attending Physician – N.Y. Pub. Health Law § 2994-f

Attending physicians must review the medical basis for a decision to withdraw or withhold life-sustaining treatment and either implement or object to the decision. Physicians that object to the decision must inform the decision maker of the basis for their decision, attempt to transfer the patient, and, if necessary, refer the dispute to the ethics review committee. Decisions to withdraw or withhold life-sustaining treatment must be documented in the patient’s medical record.
