Resident's rights and services. 
 
A nursing facility resident has the following rights:

  • Choose an attending physician;
  • Choose a pharmacy to obtain medications;
  • Be fully informed in advance about care and treatment;
  • Participate in planning care and treatment;
  • Consent to or refuse treatment;
  • Self-administer drugs if the interdisciplinary team determines that the practice is safe;
  • Access the resident’s records within 1 business day upon an oral or written request;
  • Obtain copies of the resident’s records within 2 business days;
  • Confidentiality of personal records;
  • Examine the results of the most recent federal and state surveys, including the annual survey and any subsequent complaint investigations, and any correction plans prompted by the surveys; and
  • Voice grievances regarding treatment.
