Informed Consent
 
Requires mental health facilities to obtain informed consent prior to using electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) or other painful behavior modification therapies. Informed consent must be obtained from both the individual and their legal guardian or alternative decision maker and documented in the individual’s clinical record. Prohibits the use of ECT on individuals under the age of 16. Requires a licensed psychiatrist to consult on the case prior to administrating ECT and for this consult to be documented in an individual’s clinical record.
