“Grounds for disciplinary action; action by the board under the Optometry Practice Act” 

Optometrists may be denied a license or face disciplinary sanctions for a variety of grounds including:

  • Making or filing a false report or failing to file a report required by state or federal law;
  • Fraud, negligence, incompetency, or misconduct in the practice of optometry;
  • Fraudulently submitting a claim to a health insurer for services which were not provided to a patient;
  • Failing to keep written optometric records about patients;
  • Gross malpractice;
  • Being unable to practice optometry because of illness or substance use; and
  • Being disciplining by a regulatory agency in another state.
