Each physician, dentist, hospital, or person providing diagnostic or treatment services to patients with cancer is responsible for reporting each case of cancer to the department of health within six months of diagnosis.  Furthermore, such providers must also grant to the department or its authorized representatives access to all records that identify cases of cancer or establish characteristics of cancer, the treatment of cancer, or the medical status of any identified cancer patient.  The department of health must record in the cancer registry all reports it receives.

The Arthur G. James and Richard J. Solove research institute of the Ohio State University will analyze and evaluate the cancer reports collected.  The department will annually publish and make available to the public reports summarizing the information collected.
