The state of Missouri has delineated operating requirements for ambulatory surgical centers.  Among them is the requirement that ambulatory surgical centers maintain medical records for each patient cared for.  The medical records must be easily accessible, and be available for inspection by the Department of Health and Senior Services.  In addition, ambulatory surgical centers are required to have an infection control program, which includes an infection control committee, measures for identifying and investigating health care associated infections, and procedures for data collection.  The ambulatory surgical center is also required to report instances of health care associated infections to the Department.  In order to prevent health care associated infections, ambulatory surgical centers must establish protocols addressing patient care and conduct ongoing education and training to its personnel.
